Coming 43 next month and freakin clean out here. This song takes me back to the 90s. It was a great time to be alive and 20 years old in Northern Ireland. We got peace and the madness and mayhem ended. I am a big snooker fan and Jimmy White losing that final still hurts. An amazing era of British football, Euro 96, them bloody Germans and penalties. Manchester United doing the treble. Ferguson and Wenger/Keegan going at it on MOTD, like that shit was box office entertainment every Saturday night. Bet you only appreciate it now lol. Alex Ferguson the Jedi Master. The movies were the best ever and kids today will never experience shopping in Virgin Megastore at Christmas, or walking about reading the back of VHS covers in some little video shop you found in another town. I spent days as a kid in video shops just reading covers, trying to scrounge a free rental like Terminator 2, and not stare at the staff members huge tits lol. And the music, we were spoilt. Britpop culture was changing the world I felt like I was winning. Come the millennium the digital age Internet took over and two planes hit the twin towers. The world has never been the same since 9/11. After that day everything went to shit with wars and terrorism and viruses just global murder and madness. Now today in 2022, they teach kids in schools that men can get pregnant and woman can have penises. And nuclear war and the end seems a very real possibility in 2022. I feel sorry for todays kids, any wonder they are so messed up. Yes folks, the 90s was the peak of our species. And we threw it all away.

The original recording, much like Lou Reed himself, is a masterpiece. This version though? The archetypal song recording for charity; looks good on paper but fails on every conceivable muical angle. Do yourself a favour and listen to the 1972 recording.
